Hi people! This is my first time posting on the blog. Sorry teacher but our friend Neide has been quite intimidating these days, hehe, she posted almost everything! But I think that this is no excuse to my absence here... anyway... sorry and congratulations for you Neide!
In this post I will be talking about some aspects of the Amish people. This topic was designed to me in the class about the Amish community. I think that this topic is very overused, so I will focus on some interesting curiosities I hope this can be of some help.
Pennsylvania Dutch Country is a territory of the USA that is known for being the homeland of a very singular kind of community, the Amish. They live a very special way of life, with no modern-like things and almost no contact with the "exterior civilization".
Some people would think that they stopped in the middle of time. In fact, this is a wrong idea. They refuse to use the modernity of the actual civilization because, for them, this could be the beginning of the destruction of their so loved way of life. They don't accept technologies that turn their life more easy but they accept the ones that turn their days more "livable". One great example is the one regarding the medicines:
"Most Amish and Mennonite groups to not oppose modern medicine. Their readiness to seek health services varies from family to family. Nothing in the Amish understanding of the Bible forbids them from using modern medical services, including surgery, hospitalization, dental work, anesthesia, blood transfusions, etc. They do believe, however, that good health, both physical and mental, is a gift from God and requires careful stewardship on the part of the individual[...]"
